Farmer Steve's Bio

FarmerStevePix

Hello everyone.   I’m Steve Munno, Farm Manager for Massaro Farm CSA.

I was hired into this position in November and have been working since then on planning everything from crop plans, to building greenhouses and acquiring a tractor.   I am very glad to be here working on such a great project!   I am particularly excited to be involved in a community that has already done so much work to make this farm a possibility.

Last season I worked with The Food Project in Lincoln, MA, where we cultivated 30-acres of non-certified organic vegetables.   We provided for a 400-member CSA, three farm stands and donations to eight hunger relief organizations.  I was engaged in all aspects of our production there, including managing the greenhouse and delivering education programs to youth and community volunteers.

Other things you might want to know about me:   I am a New York native and Wesleyan University alum.  As such I am glad to be here now, so close to my roots.   Also, I am an outdoor enthusiast, love to cook, and root for the Yankees.   prior to last season, I lived in California for five years, the final two of which I spent at the University of California at Santa Cruz.   At UC Santa Cruz I studied and taught sustainable agriculture practices in the Apprenticeship for Ecological Horticulture.
